How Much Does It Cost To Rewrite Matric In 2026?
Rewriting matric is a common path for many South Africans who did not meet the requirements the first time around or want to improve their marks. Whether you aim to qualify for university admission, enhance your job prospects, or achieve personal goals, knowing the costs involved is an important first step. As we look ahead to 2026, many students and adult learners are asking: How much does it cost to rewrite matric?
The answer depends on a few key factors, such as the type of rewrite you choose (e.g., NSC rewrite, Amended Senior Certificate, or upgrading through a college), the number of subjects you are rewriting, and whether you are going through the Department of Basic Education or a private institution. Some options are free or low-cost if you qualify for government support, while others, especially private colleges, may charge registration and tuition fees.
Beyond the actual exam fees, there are also additional costs to consider, like textbooks, transport to classes or exam venues, and possibly even tutoring. These can add up quickly, especially if you are working or supporting a family while studying.
